On set with London Hughes

Today we started filming ‘Piss Artist’ a short comedy film I was commission to write for Tate Modern. It’s about Marcel Duchamp’s groundbreaking artwork ‘Fountaine’, is produced by BrotherBrother and starts London Hughes.

The Act Of Union

Today saw the first table reading for my new play The Act Of Union. It’s a brand new satirical comedy of sexual politics and political sex. And I’m very pleased to have had a fantastic cast together to hear it come alive for the first time – including Mina Anwar (The Thin Blue Line, Upstart Crow, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie) and Michael Gould (Ian Rickson’s Hamlet at the Old Vic with Michael Sheen, In Extremis at Shakespeare’s Globe, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story).

Pictured below (l to r): Yaz Al-Shaater (directing), Michael Grady-Hall (Marcus), Mina Anwar (Leader of the Opposition), Jan Shepherd (stage directions), Michael Gould (Prime Minister) and Ashlea Kaye (Karin).20190221_161830

Still not the messiah

DSC_8589My play Not The Messiah will be touring again this January – with dates so far confirmed in Litchfield and Dumfries. Another chance to catch George Telfer’s fantastic performance as Graham Chapman.

The show originally played at the Pleasance Edinburgh in 2013, where it sold out and received five 5-star reviews. It has since toured to Belfast, Holmfirth, Derby, and played at Theatre503 and Leicester Square Theatre in London.

It’s the end of the world as we know it

I’m currently on set for the filming of my first short film – An Admin Work20180622_160641er At The End Of The World. Written with Yaz & Haz Al-Shaater of BrotherBrother, this tells the story of Annie who struggles to complete her paperwork and leave her job as the world crumbles around her.

We’re shooting in East London this week and next week. Here’s a photo of a recent clapperboard.

In Theory

I’m very pleased to confirm that BrotherBrother are going to be producing In Theory - my new short film about driving theory and choose-your-own-adventure fantasy (an obvious combo).

Shooting is scheduled for mid-December and the film should be out in February.

Mark Lawson in the Guardian

Here’s Mark Lawson in today’s Guardian, discussing my latest show as it returns to Edinburgh in the post-Brexit climate…

One gamble with history that has spectacularly paid off is the return of one of last year’s hits, David Benson’s portrayal of the cabinet’s only surviving Old Etonian in Tom Crawshaw’s play Boris: World King

A daring tonal shift in the script – a furious moral interlude in which the audience is warned that Johnson may not be as harmless as his rumpled buffoonery suggests – has even more force when aimed at the holder of one of the great offices of state.”

It’s on page 22 of the main Guardian – or online here.

Boris sells out

20150809_131241A few days into the Edinburgh Fringe and I can report that Boris: World King is selling-out each day. Very exciting as we moved up to a 175-seat space this year.

Tickets for each performance are usually gone by the late morning of the show, so if you’re planning to see it do book in advance.
